35 year old male, Mr. A. B., reported with complaints of non-healing ulcers on both the legs since 10-12 years.
- The complaints would start with localized inflammation near the ankle with severe pain.
- The skin would then break open at that spot leading to ulcer formation with lot of itching.
- The complaints would be worse during change of weather, during monsoon and cloudy weather, and the slightest touch and fanning would be intolerable. He would feel better by keeping the limb in horizontal position and from rest.
He had received anti-tubercular medicines, Ayurvedic, Homoeopathic and Allopathic Medicines without any relief.
By nature he was very short tempered and would get irritated over petty things. He loved to travel and liked to have a big group of friends. He had felt dejected when he could not marry the girl of his choice because of opposition from his parents in the past and had been depressed for almost a year after which he got married to another girl.
The patient had marked fear of snakes and dreamt of snakes- almost six days a week. He would also get dreams of running away from death, dog, snakes and he would wake up startled. He could not tolerate tight clothes or anything around the neck, he would feel suffocated; he had to keep the shirt buttons around the neck open.
As a person, he was also very revengeful by nature; if somebody did something wrong, he would always remember it and keep it at the back of his mind; later he would take his revenge when he would get the opportunity.
He wanted to do something creative as he was good in studies but his parents had not allowed him to pursue a career of his choice; he had to join and run the family business. Recently the business was not good and it caused a lot of tension. He would feel that he was not doing any work and that he had not achieved anything in his life. This had brought in a feeling of depression in him.
His appetite was normal and he had liking for spicy food and alcohol; he was averse to taking sweets and ice creams. He had thirst for large quantities of water. The patient had habit of smoking since last 7 years.
He would perspire more on the palms and soles since childhood. He was sensitive to heat in general and preferred to be in a colder climate.
In the past, he had suffered from chicken pox and besides this; there was no history of any other health problem.
Based on the above history, he was prescribed Lachesis 0/4 for his complaints of non-healing chronic ulcers. 6 weeks of continued medication saw him recover completely from the ulcers. The wound over the ankle had healed completely. His medication was continued for some more time and thereafter it was concluded. He was asked to report to us only in case he developed any complaints in future.
