A young boy of 15 years was bought to the clinic seeking medication for Diabetes. At the time of consultation the patient had fasting blood sugar level of 269mgs/dl and postprandial sugar as 318mgs/dl. Urine sugar was +4. He was on insulin 40 units per day. The patient had lost 6 Kgs in 1 month. Inspite of all the medications his blood sugar levels were not in control and there used to be frequent exacerbation of his complaints.
When the patient had visited the clinic he appeared restless and hurried, he didn't sit in one place and was very much busy talking on his cellular phone. His speech was very abrupt and he was worried about his health; he had wept before coming to the clinic as his blood sugar levels were high.
The patient had the habit of biting his nails since childhood. He was very much attached to his mother and when he was sent to the boarding school he got upset as he missed his mother a lot there. This separation was like an emotional shock to him and he used to weep for hours. If Parents visited him and went back he would cry for hours.
The boy had a tendency to get angry and when he got angry he would throws things, hit his sister, bite, pull hair, bang things, sit alone and scream.
He was very confident about himself and he helped his father in his business. He sometimes felt pressurized from his father about various things. He got along well with everybody but he hated being laughed at and felt sad afterwards.
He has a marked craving for cold drinks and sweets. He felt better in warm weather and by warm drinks.
He patient preferred to sleep in knee chest position and kept his soles uncovered.
P/H:
Fungal infections treated with steroids.
Asthma treated with bronchodilators and steroids.
The patient was prescribed Medo 30. His first follow up was after 4 weeks he reported he had slept better than ever and was feeling much calmer. On investigations his blood sugar levels were relatively lower and under control.
He was next seen after 4 weeks the patient looked healthier. He said his appetite was better and was feeling much energetic. His blood sugar was under control and his insulin dose was reduced under supervision. Over the period of next few weeks is condition kept improving and he had even put on weight. His blood sugar levels were under control and his insulin dose was tapered further. There were no episodes of exacerbation of blood sugar levels.
