Diagnosis: Post Chikungunya Arthralgia

Dr. N.A.K., 32 year old Unani doctor reported for the treatment of pain in multiple joints since 6 weeks. She had suffered from high grade fever with chills and rashes about 6 weeks back, which had been diagnosed as Chikungunya. The fever had lasted 5 days; she had taken allopathic medication for the same.

• Her complaint was that the joint pains had not subsided even after taking conventional treatment.
• All the small joints of the body were painful.
• She could not hold anything in her hands, especially in mornings.
• The pain would be better from movement.

She also complained of tingling numbness in the left hand and this would be less when she would lift the hand.

The patient had a normal appetite and thirst with liking for fried food, spicy food, fish, chicken, mutton, raw onion and ice and was averse to sweets. Her perspiration was profuse. She had 2 daughters aged 6 years and 10 months; both of them had been delivered normally.

She was sensitive to heat in general and felt more comfortable in colder weather.

During the case taking she mentioned that a person she was reserved since childhood. When angry, she would suppress it, never expressing it and was afraid of crowds and water.

By nature she was sensitive and would feel hurt very easily, but not weep easily and felt better when consoled.

Her trait was she could not share her things with others. Even in childhood, the patient did not share her toys with anyone else except her sisters.

Typhoid about 4 months back.

F/H Both her parents suffered from diabetes.

Based on the above history, she was prescribed a dose of Thuja 200 along with Rhus tox 30 for her joint pains. A week later, she reported that the tingling numbness in her left hand was less and her joint pains were the same. This time, she was given Eupatorium Perforatum 30 and within 10 days, she was more than 70% better in her joint pains. Her treatment was continued for another fortnight after which it was conclude. She was asked to report to us in case she developed any other complaints in future.

Diagnosis: Chikungunya

Mrs. N.B. P., 45 year old patient got sudden high fever with joint pains. She had such severe joint pains that she could not walk on account of it. Her relatives had called up from Gujarat to give her history on the phone. She had been diagnosed as having Chikungunya. At the time when her case was reported to us for treatment, Chikungunya was rampant in her locality in Gujarat.

Her relatives reported that she was feeling cold and had increased thirst for small quantities of water. Her joint pain would be somewhat better with pressure and hot applications and she was much worse after walking.

Based on the above history, she was prescribed Arsenic Album 200 for the fever along with Bryonia 30. She continued treatment for one week at the end of which, she had no fever and the joint pains were much better than before.

Bryonia 30 was continued for some more time until her joint pains subsided completely.
